Description	:	Gertrude E. Louwerse, 91, of Sioux Center, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005 at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility. Memorial Services were field Jan. 10 at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg and Steven Rhoda officiating. Interment will precede the Memorial service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Gertrude Elizabeth (Burgers) Louwerse was born June 21, 1913, the daughter of Lucas and Judith (Van Doorn) Burgers in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Three months after her birth, the Burgers family immigrated to the United States settling in the rural Sioux Center area. Gertrude attended country school and completed the 8th grade. On a snowy March 2, 1936, Gertrude married John Louwerse in Lebanon. The couple had to postpone their nuptials three times due to a stormy Northwest Iowa winter. Gertrude and John lived in a variety of places in the Ireton and Hawarden area during their 52 years of marriage. Most of Gertrude's years were spent helping on the farm and raising their children. She has been a member of the Christian Reformed Churches of Lebanon and Hawarden, and was currently a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. She was very active in the Ladies Aid societies as well as many other church activities. Survivors include her six children: Kenneth Louwerse of Orange City, Rev. Anthony Louwerse of Holland, MI, Judy Louwerse of Sioux Center, Marie Mulder of Ireton, JoAnn Obbink of Hawarden, and Gertrude Van Regenmorter, Rock Valley; 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, a brother Hans Burgers of Sioux Center, a brother-in-law Jim Louwerse of Cocoa, Fla., and a sister-in-law Hazel Louwerse of Cherokee Village, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband John, two grandchildren: Christopher Mulder and Rhonda Van Regenmorter, a great granddaughter April Louwerse, a brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Alice Burgers, a sister and brother-in-law Jennie and Marinus Louwerse.
