Description	:	Gertrude C. Powers, 100, died of natural causes at her home in Helena on Nov. 26, 2008. Gert was born on Feb. 24, 1908 in Winona, Minn. to Robert and Mary Masega. She attended and graduated from Winona High School. After graduation Gert entered a 3-year Hospital-Trained Nursing program where she earned a Registered Nurse degree. In 1930, Gert married Emil P. Powers, 100, died of natural causes at her home in Helena on Nov. 26, 2008. Gert was born on Feb. 24, 1908 in Winona, Minn. to Robert and Mary Masega. She attended and graduated from Winona High School. After graduation Gert entered a 3-year Hospital-Trained Nursing program where she earned a Registered Nurse degree. In 1930, Gert married Emil P. Edelbach. They had a son, Emil Edelbach, Jr. Her husband preceded her death on July 4, 1940. In 1946 Gert met and married Walt Powers. They moved to Neihart where they ran a Texaco gas station and a local restaurant until 1956. They moved to Conrad and one year later Walt passed away. Gert performed private duty nursing services in her rural community for a short time. In 1956, she began working at St. Mary’s hospital, which later became Pondera Medical Center. She retired from nursing in 1977. Her son, Emil, died on Feb. 11, 1979. After retirement Gert spent much of her time feeding birds and stray cats. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Survivors include daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Edelbach of Helena; granddaughters, Sue (Phil) of Butte and Lori (Rich) of Helena; grandson, Terry (Pam) Edelbach of Washington; friends, John and Catherine Stibel and Bernard and Mary Faith Koenig of Conrad; and many great nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Pondera Funeral Home. Burial will be in Conrad at a later date.--The Independent-Observer (Conrad, MT)
