Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND. Fr. Joachim Mudd and Fr. Paul Ruge will concelebrate the Mass and Deacon Tony McDonald will assist. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Eulogy will be given by Dr. Carol Davis, Vice-President of Turtle Mountain College and music will be provided by the Fort Totten Prayer Group. A Wake and Vigil Service will be held tonight beginning at 5 p.m. at the Dakotah Oyate Lutheran Church, rural Tokio, ND. The Rosary and Scripture Service will be at 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be R.J. Jetty, Dusty Jetty, Judd Kunkel, Kyle Longie, Kooper Longie, Richard Cavanaugh and Baby Greg Cavanaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Mary Redbird, Eunice Green, Doreen Johnson, Eileen Tabert, Marina Tacan, Gladys Cook, Evelyn Ross, Cecelia Taylor, Melinda Thompson, Florence One Bear, Martina Blueshield, Delores Davis, Dr. Carol Davis, Anthony Foote, Richard McKay, Joseph Brown, Lincoln Blueshield, the people of Woodlake District and all friends and relatives. Gertrude Cecilia was born on May 5, 1927 in Lohnes Township, the daughter of Henry and Laura (Lohnes) McKay. She was reared in the Horseshoe Lake area in the Woodlake district. She attended school in the St. Michael Boarding School and Marty, SD. Gertrude was united in marriage to William J. Cavanaugh on April 8, 1948 in Tokio, ND. They lived in the St. Michael area, moved to Wolf Point, Mont. for three years and returned to the Woodlake area where they have since lived. William died on Sept. 16, 1996. Gertrude worked at the Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake in the OB Ward for a number of years. She also worked for the Talent Search Program out of Mary College in Bismarck, ND from 1971 thru 1975. Gertrude served on the Spirit Lake Tribal Council as the Woodlake District Representative from 1966 until her retirement in 1985.She was a member of the St. Mary's Society and a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church. She is survived by daughters, Jeanine Cavanaugh, Faye (Raymond) Jetty; and Darlis (Skip, Sr.) Longie; sons, Billy Dean (Carolyn) Cavanaugh, Stanley Cavanaugh and Greg Cavanaugh; adopted son, Virgil Tiokasin; special nephew, Walter George (Porgie) Cavanaugh; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Cavanaugh; son, Randall J. Cavanaugh; foster son, Gilbert Fassett; parents, Henry and Laura (Lohnes) McKay; brother, Henry Jr.; sisters, Dorothy and Delores; and granddaughter, Rondina "Ronee" Longie.
