Foley, former North Dakota poet, died here Sunday morning from bronchial pneumonia. She had been ill for three days. A resident of North Dakota approximately 50 years, Mrs. Foley for the last 42 years had lived at Medora. She was a friend of Theodore Roosevelt and the Marquis de Mores. The "rough rider" president always visited at the home of her family on his trips to western North Dakota where he hunted and regained his health at the Maltese Cross ranch which he owned. During the good will tour of the state last June, Mrs. Foley was a principal speaker at Medora, reviewing the history of the Badlands. She told of Roosevelt and the story of the Marquis and his efforts to establish a huge packing plant industry at Medora. She had been active in the operation of a gift shop at Foley lodge since the death of her husband 17 years ago. Born at Tidioute, Penn., Mrs. Foley came to North Dakota following the death of her first husband. For seven years she lived at Jamestown. Her name then was Mrs. Gertrude Wood. She married Mr. Foley 42 years ago and they settled at Medora. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Davis of Medora, and step-son, James, who lives in Pasadena, Calif. James W. Foley is widely known in the United States for his poetry. He is a former North Dakota newspaper man. Funeral services will be conducted here Tuesday at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Bismarck with services at the grave. **The Bismarck Tribune, Monday, October 14, 1935, Page 1.
