She died Saturday, July 3, 1993 at Presbyterian/St. Lukes Hospital in Denver at the age of 83. Born two hours after her brother George, the preemies were kept alive by Dr. Douglas, a country doctor. Gertrude and George attended Cortland Schools, graduating co-valedictorians from high school in 1927. They attended Doane College at Crete, Nebraska graduating in 1931. They worked while attending college: George rang the bells for his room in Merrill Hall and Gertrude did babysitting, ironing and washed dishes. She taught country schools in Phillips and Yuma counties. Her interest in teaching school came from her grandfather who was the first school teacher at Cortland, Nebraska. Gertrude married William H. (Bud) Ferguson on August 18, 1943. They made their home southwest of Holyoke where they farmed and ranched. They had four daughters. Gertrude helped with Sunday School all her life. She was president of Wages United Methodist Women's Society for several years. She worked at Sheridan Manor when her daughters were in high school. After Bud passed away, Gertrude continued to live on the farm until purchasing a home in Haxtun where she resided since that time. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary after moving to Haxtun. Preceding Gertrude in death were her parents, twin brother, daughter, and husband. Survivors include daughters Mary Carr and husband David of Denver, Shirley Crom and husband Mick of Durango and Margaret Cingoranelli and husband Dominic of Avondale; brother R.J. Price and wife Eileen of Cortland, Nebraska; sister Hazel Jones of Vallejo, California; sisters-in-law Bernice and Doris Ferguson of Holyoke, Leah Sperber and husband Clyde of Holyoke and Edna Ferguson of Haxtun; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends. Services were scheduled for Wednesday, July 7, 1993 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Haxtun with Rev. Thomas Cross officiating. Burial will follow in Holyoke Memorial Park at Holyoke.
