Description	:	1.) MRS. BERT TEALE Gertrude, one of eight children born to Eliza and James Smith, first saw the light of day January 15, 1875, in Decatur County, just east of Lamoni, Iowa. Here she grew to young womanhood. On November 8, 1893, she was united in marriage to Mr. Bert Teale, and to this union one son, Bertrand Verne, was born. Read More	1.) MRS. BERT TEALE Gertrude, one of eight children born to Eliza and James Smith, first saw the light of day January 15, 1875, in Decatur County, just east of Lamoni, Iowa. Here she grew to young womanhood. On November 8, 1893, she was united in marriage to Mr. Bert Teale, and to this union one son, Bertrand Verne, was born. Prior to her marriage she gave herself to the care and comforts of her parents and later assisted her husband in the mercantile business. In 1904 Mr. and Mrs. Teale moved to Mt. Ayr, Iowa, where she took an active part in all civic and community enterprises, among which was the building of the new Methodist Church. In 1927 they moved to Jefferson, Iowa and later to Scranton, Iowa, returning to Lamoni about a year ago. In 1906 Mr. and Mrs. Teale joined the Methodist Church in Lamoni and through the years the Christian faith has been a source of courage, help, and comfort to her. She was a kind, loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and daughter; one of the best neighbors, giving herself unselfishly to those ideals which she believed were for the best interests of the community. About fifteen years ago, Mrs. Teale's health began to fail, and although all was done for her recovery that loving hands and medical skills could do, she was not able to take the active part in life that so often she greatly desired. While the shadows of life's sunset had begun to gather around her she was not considered more seriously ill than she had been at other times, but then, without warning, she slept quietly away into that dreamless sleep, which closes down her eyelids still, September 12, 1941, being at the age of 66 years, 7 months, and 27 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her devoted husband, her son, Bertrand Verne Teale of Chicago: one grandson, James Nord Teale of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, Mrs. A. Otis White of Lamoni, and Mrs. Minnie B. Keller of Alecto, Ill.; three brothers, C. F., T. J., and A. H. Smith, all of Lamoni, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church here by the Rev. Z. M. Bressler. Two duet numbers, "Oh, Day of Rest and Gladness" and "Still, Still With Thee" were sung by Mrs. Arthur Derry and Mrs. Roland Schneider, with Mrs. Burnham Silsby at the piano. Pallbearers were A. E. Lewis, W. A. Grenawalt, J. C. Danielson. C. V. Anderson, Oscar Anderson, and Fred Condit. Interment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery. BERT TEALE LAID TO REST AT ROSE HILL SUNDAY Mrs. Bert Teale passed away quietly on Friday, September 12, after a long period of poor health. Services were held in Lamoni Sunday and burial was at Rose Hill. Mrs. Teal was the daughter of Eliza and James Smith, early pioneers of Decatur county. The early years of her life were spent in and around Lamoni but later she and her husband moved to Mount Ayr, Jefferson, and Scranton returning to Lamoni about a year ago.
