Eilers, 73, who died last Friday following a stroke suffered on May 11, were conducted Monday at Trinity Lutheran church in Hawarden. Interment was in Grace Hill cemetery with the Barnard Funeral Home in charge Gertrude Katherina, one of seven children born to George H and Mata Frerichs, was born on November 16, 1882, at Le Mars and became a member of the Christ Evangelical church of Grant township in early infancy. On May 22, 1901, she was married to Gerhard J. Eilers, Rev. J. D. Meyer, pastor of her church, performing ceremony. Seven children were born. She also fostered two grandchildren upon their parent's death in 1940. During the next fourteen years she and her husband lived on several farms in the immediate community and in 1915 moved to a farm three miles south of this city. Two years later Mrs. Eilers was received into membership with the local congregation and in 1920 she became a member of the Ladies' Aid Society, retaining this membership in an active capacity until two years ago when she became an Honorary member. In August, 1945, she moved into the city of Hawarden making her home at 1203 Avenue M. On May 22, 1951, she and her husband observed their golden wedding anniversary with open house and a service of praise. Because of a physical condition of long duration, she went to a clinic in 1951, to submit to a thorough physical examination. She submitted to an amputation on February 22, 1954, and, eleven months later, to a second amputation, forcing her to become a wheelchair patient. Those .preceding her in death were her parents four children, Fred at age three, George at six months, Edna at four months, and Ernest; two brothers, George and John Frerichs, and one sister, Anna. Survivors include her husband, Gerhard; two sons, Clarence and Earl, and one daughter, Luella Wilkinson, all of Hawarden, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Frerichs of Akron and Ernest Frerichs of Le Mars; one sister, Anna Luschen of Le Mars; one Aunt, Annie Frerichs of Le Mars, and many other relatives. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Bernard Funeral Home, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. O. P. W. Pittack officiated and burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Eilers was born November 16, 1882, in Plymouth County near LeMars. She was married to Gehard Eilers May 22, 1902. Mr. and Mrs. Eilers would have observed their 55th wedding anniversary next Tuesday. Mrs. Eilers moved to Hawarden community 40 years ago. The family lived on a farm near Hawarden until 11 years ago, when they moved to Hawarden. Survivors are the widower, three children; Mrs. John Wilkison, Clarence Eilers and Earl Eilers, all of Hawarden; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Frerichs of Akron, Ia., and Ernest Frerichs of LeMars.
