Description	:	Gertrude passed away Sunday evening at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa. Gertrude Lucille Halliburton was born November 7, 1914 in Kirkville, Iowa to Jesse and Rena Pearl Beaman Long. Gertrude was a 1932 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. December 13, 1933, she married John Wallace Humphrey. Gertude was a homemaker and busy mother to their four children. John died May 12, 1947. Gertrude Lucille Halliburton was born November 7, 1914 in Kirkville, Iowa to Jesse and Rena Pearl Beaman Long. Gertrude was a 1932 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. December 13, 1933, she married John Wallace Humphrey. Gertude was a homemaker and busy mother to their four children. John died May 12, 1947. Gertrude married Walter Halliburton, June 14, 1950, in Lancaster, MO. After their marriage, Gertrude was able to attend William Penn College, where she earned her teaching certificate. She and Walter lived on a farm near Bussey and Gertrude taught in a one-room school house in Jefferson Township, Mahaska County. In 1965, they moved into Oskaloosa and Gertrude went to work in housekeeping at Mahaska County Hospital. In 1967, Gertrude and Walter moved to Tucson, AZ; there Gertrude drove a school bus and later worked at the clothing bank, a place supplying clothing to under privileged children. She retired in 1976. After Walter's death in 1989, Gertrude moved back to the Oskaloosa area. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and reading. Her family includes her children: Margaret Eagan of Apache Junction, AZ; Jean and Charles Van Toorn of Oskaloosa; Linda and Keith Beintema of Leighton, IA and Jack and Karen Humphrey of Show Low, AZ; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a brother, Homer and Helen Long of Oskaloosa and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husbands; Gertrude was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Peggy Smith; a grandson, Bryon Van Toorn and a sister, Lois Briney. Visitation will begin at 10 am Wednesday morning, May 9, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5-6:30 pm to greet visitors. Funeral Service: 2 pm Thursday afternoon, May 10, 2012 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Dwayne Poe of the Open Bible Church officiating. Interment: Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
