She was born at Staplehurst on October 22, 1911 to William Koenig and his wife Lisette Weller Koenig. Gertrud was baptized at home on November 12, 1911 due to severely cold weather. Her elementary schooling was completed in 1925 at Immanuel Lutheran School in Staplehurst, where her father was teacher-principal. She was born at Staplehurst on October 22, 1911 to William Koenig and his wife Lisette Weller Koenig. Gertrud was baptized at home on November 12, 1911 due to severely cold weather. Her elementary schooling was completed in 1925 at Immanuel Lutheran School in Staplehurst, where her father was teacher-principal. On June 7, 1925, she was confirmed in her faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her confirmation memory verse was John 10:27-28, which she has chosen as the text for her funeral sermon. Gertrud graduated from Seward High School in 1929 and from Condordia College at Seward in 1933. She taught in Lutheran elementary schools at Arapahoe, Blue Hill, Omaha, and Osseo, MN. Later, she attended evening accounting classes at Northwestern University School of Commerce on its Chicago campus. She worked as an accountant in Chicago, Omaha, and Lincoln until retiring in 1976. Gertrud resided at Maplewood Apartments in Lincoln and the Crete Manor in Crete. She was prededed in death by her parents; Sisters, Wilhelmina and Clara; Brothers, Henry and Paul. GRAVESIDE SERVICES 10:00 am, Tuesday, Seward Cemetery, 537 North Highway 15, Seward. Memorials in care of Redeemer Lutheran Church, 510 South 33rd Street, Lincoln, NE 68510.
