Gertrude was born February 17, 1916 at North Bend, NE to Thomas and Anna (Rodewald) Johnson. Gertrude was raised on the family farm in Dodge County and was a graduate of North Bend High School. She then graduated from Capitol School of Cosmetology in Omaha, NE. She met Henry "Hank" Lechtenberger while working in her brother’s grocery store in Geneva, NE. They were married April 2, 1938 at York, NE. The couple farmed near Geneva until moving to a farm near North Bend in 1945. She was a school lunch manager at North Bend Central Jr/Sr High School for 11 years. They moved to Fremont in 1980 and retired from farming in 1982. Hank preceded her in death on December 1, 1987. Gertrude was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Fremont, United Presbyterian Women, the Mariner Club for over 65 years, the Presbyterian Quilters and OES Ruth Chapter 119 at North Bend. She was a former member of the Pioneer Radio Club of Fremont, Webster Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Church of North Bend and the PEO Chapter. She is survived by son, Rodney (Mary) Lechtenberger of Ft Pierce, FL; daughter, Charlene (Bob) Thome of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law, Gay Lou Lechtenberger of Creston IA; son-in-law, Barry Masten of Lincoln, NE; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard; daughter; Connie Masten; brothers, Clarence Johnson, Lester Johnson and Walter Johnson ; sisters, Oletha Kern, Elizabeth Jamison and Pauline Paxton; and granddaughter, Lisbeth Sass. Funeral service will be 10:30AM, Friday March 10, 2017 at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont. The Rev. Jon Ashley and Pastor Beth Ann Stone will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be 1:30 PM Friday at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend, Nebraska. Memorial may be directed to The Presbyterian Church in Fremont of to Serene Care Hospice." Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N. Somers Ave., Fremont, NE 68025.
