She had resided in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac since December and had been in the hospital for one day. She was born on January 22, 1909, in Columbus to Lewis and Senia Thompson Ward. She attended the Columbus schools and graduated from Cherokee County High School in Columbus in 1927. Ports, 80, of 1103 East Seventh Street, died at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 1989, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. She had resided in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac since December and had been in the hospital for one day. She was born on January 22, 1909, in Columbus to Lewis and Senia Thompson Ward. She attended the Columbus schools and graduated from Cherokee County High School in Columbus in 1927. In 1928, she moved to Pittsburg and went to work for Sam & Oscar Clothing Store, later named Holden's , for 25 years. She also worked for the Abbe Deruy Furniture Store for 23 years, retiring in November of 1974. She was married to Delmar C. Ports on December 14, 1944, in Pittsburg. Mr. Ports died on May 13, 1969. Mrs. Ports was a member of the Columbus Presbyterian Church until her membership was transferred to the Pittsburg First Presbyterian Church in 1929. She was also a member of the Eagles Sunflower Auxiliary No. 123, the American Legion Auxiliary Benjamin A. Fuller Post No. 64 and the 8 & 40 Club. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 South Broadway, with the Reverend Robert Bardeen of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at the Bath-Naylor Funeral [Home], 522 South Broadway, with the Reverend Robert Bardeen officiating. The soloist will be James Burden and the organist will be Gertrude Stahl. Casketbearers will be James D. Ward, John Ward, Tom Ward, Odell Davidson, Marion Lynn, and Don Ward. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
