Description	:	Gertrude Marion (Schliemann) Westendorf was born on Dec. 20, 1918 to Carl Wesley and Lulu Bessie (Irish) Schliemann in rural Minnehaha County, SD. She grew-up in the Hartford area and graduated from Hartford High School in 1938. On Aug. 1, 1942, Gertrude was united in marriage to Earl E. Westendorf at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD and together they had five children. They lived in Watertown, Sioux Falls, and Apache Junction, AZ before returning to Sioux Falls in 1985. Read More	Gertrude Marion (Schliemann) Westendorf was born on Dec. 20, 1918 to Carl Wesley and Lulu Bessie (Irish) Schliemann in rural Minnehaha County, SD. She grew-up in the Hartford area and graduated from Hartford High School in 1938. On Aug. 1, 1942, Gertrude was united in marriage to Earl E. Westendorf at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD and together they had five children. They lived in Watertown, Sioux Falls, and Apache Junction, AZ before returning to Sioux Falls in 1985. Gertie loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards, sewing, Jane Austin, reading, movies and popcorn. After a full and blessed life, Gertie passed away on Nov. 10, 2011 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. She attained the age of 92 years, ten months and 20 days. Grateful for having shared her life are her five children, Gloria Aasen and her husband LeRoy of Sioux Falls, Arthur "Bud" Westendorf and his wife Shirleen of Sioux Falls, Dale Westendorf and his wife Gail of Beaumont, TX, Robert Westendorf and his wife Julie of Sioux Falls, and Peggy Subart and her husband James of Rollingstone, MN; 13 grandchildren, Aaron Aasen, Eric Aasen, Troy Aasen, Wesley Westendorf, Steven Westendorf, Justin Westendorf, Nathan Westendorf, Erin Boyd, Kira Westendorf, Kirsten Craft, Jennifer Subart, Christopher Subart, and Michelle Subart; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Eggers and Hope Limmer both of Sioux Falls; her extended family at Lennox Good Samaritan Center; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents, Carl and Lulu Schliemann; four sisters: Iva Huse, Inda Phillips, Violet Duimstra and Helen Rhodes; two brothers; Carl and Malcolm Schliemann.
