At her home on West Branch, Friday, Dec. 21, 1906, at 7:30 p.m., Gertie M., wife of Allen Carroll died. Gertie, only suffered a few days and then died as she had lived trusting Jesus. Gertie May Warrender was born July 11, 1879, in Mason county, Illinois. She came to Kansas with her parents in 1884; gave her heart to God in 1879, and united with the Evangelical church at Zion, the following year; February 23, 1898, she was married to Allen Nelson Carroll. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll, located on West Branch last March, at which place they were residing when God called the wife and mother to himself. She leaves two brothers, two sisters, parents, husband and daughter, Lola Admira, and many sincere friends to remember her excellent qualities and works of love. Her favorite song was "Jesus Lover of My Soul" which was sung at her funeral. Death came without a struggle, and the beautiful smile upon her face told us that Jesus had not left her alone but still supported and comforted her on her way to sweet rest. Tender in her goodness and loving in disposition she was a blessing to all who knew her. She has entered into rest in that city of light where freed from all that encumbers the soul life here, she waits the home coming of the dear ones on earth. She was good in greatness and great in goodness. The funeral took place Sunday, December 23, at 2:00 p.m., from the M.E. church in El Dorado, services conducted by Rev. Osen, of Chelsea, assisted by Rev. W.H. Linn. After the services she was tenderly laid to rest in Belle Vista cemetery, and so a loved one sleeps. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield) Dec. 2019
