Trudy was born on November 8, 1920 at home to March and Nona Clary, who farmed on the table land and grew up at Lewellen. She graduated from the Lewellen High School in 1938, and studied one year at Kearney State Teacher's College at Kearney, Nebraska, obtaining an elementary teaching certificate upon completion. In 1942, she completed mechanical training, and in later years, trained and became a licensed practical nurse. Reroute [sic] to Seattle, Washington, she met Joe Goebel of the U.S. Navy in 1942, and after six weeks of courtship, they married on December 14, 1942 at Bremerton, Washington. They made their homes in many states due to frequent transfers, and on retirement, settled in Salome, Arizona. Trudy taught grade school in Garden County District 55 for three years, joined Boeing Aircraft and after her marriage, returned to her home place and presented her mother and father with their first grandchild, James David. She then taught grade school in Keith and Deuel Counties, while her husband, Joe, served overseas. She was on hand when her dad, March Clary, suffered a heart attack and passed away in July of 1945. She then took care of her mother, who was blind, and continued doing what she could during WII. She can be counted among the unique and dedicated group of ladies who were determined to make sure the men and women in the service received whatever they needed. The Canteen in North Platte is an example. Joe was a recipient of some of the goodies at that location. On completion of her practical nurses training, she devoted several years of caring for the elderly in several states. She had a great sense of humor, and this was well received by all. She loved the outdoors and many pleasant hours of camping, setting by a campfire enjoying the quiet and solitude. On retirement in 1984, she pursued her love for the outdoors that she devoted her efforts towards hosting National Forest Campgrounds in several states for 14 years. Along with her sister, Edna Newcomb, a great deal of time was devoted to taking care of their mother. She was a lovable daughter, mother and beautiful wife. She loved animals, her favorite being horses, and loved to ride the same. Horses not being able to sit on her lap, she chose pug dogs, and at death, she owned two of them. Along with her parents, she was a member of the Methodist Church in Lewellen. She also sang in the choir, and her mother had a beautiful voice and sang solo before many groups. Trudy said goodbyes to her family with wise words and a smi1e on her face. It was a rapid growing cancer that caused her death. She will be missed by family and friends alike. Truly a wonderful lady. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Goebel of Salome, Arizona; two sons, James David of Westminster, Colorado and Michael T. of Plymouth. Arizona; a daughter, Barbara Jo Kuhnley of Isanti, Minnesota: two daughters-in-law, Jane and Sue; and one son-in-law, Nick; one missing son, Mark Fredrick, who died at birth: a sister Edna New-comb, who along with her husband, Loyd, live in Snohomish. Washington: give [sic] grandchildren, Joe, Jeff, Julie, Kathy and Kristy; and at this time no great-grandchildren; she also has many cousins located in various parts of the country. Trudy will be joining her mother, father, grandma and grandpa and many uncles and aunts In the Ash Hollow Cemetery. You were our strength Trudy, and we love you.
