Read More	Gertrude "Trudy" Frantz Knight June 04, 1926 - February 03, 2019 CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Gertrude "Trudy" Frantz Knight, 92, formerly of Cumberland, graduated to glory (Psalm 116:15 and Ecclesiastes 12:7) on Feb. 3, 2019, at the Sardis Oaks Rehab Center in Charlotte. Born June 4, 1926, in Cumberland, Mrs. Knight was the daughter of the late Herman Brace Frantz and Virginia Lea (Pettie) Frantz. She was also preceded in death by Norman F. Knight Sr., her husband of 61 years; two brothers, Herbert "Buddy" Frantz and Alfred "Sonny" Frantz; and a sister, Agnes Emerick. Gertrude graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1944. During World War II, she worked at the Celanese Plant in Cumberland. She married Norman Sr. in May 1946 and worked as a homemaker and mother. Gertrude taught Sunday school classes at Zion United Methodist where she has been a member for more than 60 years. She also served in Vacation Bible School and other church functions for many years. She led Good News Bible Clubs in her home for the neighborhood kids. Gertrude reached out to the community serving as a volunteer with Memorial Hospital for many years. She also served as a hospice volunteer at Memorial Hospital for over 10 years. Later, quilting became one of her passions having made dozens of quilts for family members and friends. She then began making knitted hats and scarfs for special people. She was a lifelong resident of Cumberland until she moved to Charlotte in July 2012 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Later, she moved to the Crossings at Steel Creek, an assisted-living facility in Charlotte. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Donna Dawson and husband, Ken (Charlotte); and her son, Norman Jr., (Buz) and wife, Patrice (Gloucester, Va.); and four grandchildren, Heather Minnix and husband, Steve (Charlotte), Beverly Queen and husband, Don (Charlotte), Jeremy Knight (Newport News, Va.), Matthew Knight (Hampton, Va.), and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St. Cumberland, (www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Rev. Marjorie Hurder-Buhrman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited for a time of fellowship after the services in the Fellowship Hall of Zion United Methodist Church on Bedford Road in Cumberland. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to either the Zion United Methodist Church, 12900 Bedford Road, Cumberland, MD, 21502 or the Blanket America Ministries, Inc., P.O.
