Read More	OBIT: Mrs. Carl Ostrander, the former Gertrude Wybrant, 64, Ellensburg community, musical and church leader, died this morning at Ellensburg General Hospital after an illness of some nine months. The funeral services will be at Grace Episcopal Church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, with the Rev. Frederick V. C. Ward officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery. She was born January 22, 1896 at Emsley, South Dakota, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wybrant, and moved as a child to Seattle and later to Seward, Alaska where as a young girl she played the organ in the Episcopal Church. Later the family moved to Seattle and she graduated from Queen Anne High School and attended the University of Washington and Western Washington College of Education. She leaves her husband, Carl Ostrander, well-known Ellensburg druggist, one daughter, Mrs. William (Betty) McNamara of San Diego, two grandchildren, Michele and Patrick McNamara, one sister, Miss Lillian Wybrant of Cleveland, Ohio, and a cousin, Mrs. Robert Rock of Ellensburg and an aunt in Wenatchee. She is a former president of the Grace Church Women's Auxiliary, past president of St. Anne's Episcopal Guild, former church member. She also received the Bishop's Cross for her work in the church. Mrs. Ostrander was a widely known musician. She was a member of the Community chorus from 1939 to 1943 and was also soloist in performances of the "Messiah" by Handel and the Elijah by Mendelsohn. Several times since she has sung in the chorus for performances of major works. Twice she was alto soloist when Francis Yeend was the guest soloist. For the past two seasons she was chairman of the Patrons and Patroness Committee at the presentation of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in Ellensburg. Since is inception in 1937 she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Ellensburg Community Concert Association. After graduating from Western Washington College she taught at Easter, Washington and at the government school for Indians at Meticktia, Alaska. She met her husband in Ketchikan, Alaska, where he was a druggist and she a teacher in the Indian school. After Ostrander went into the service in the signal corps in the first World War, they were married at Nulato Station on the Yukon in Alaska on September 23, 1917. They returned to the states in July 1919 and their daughter Betty was born March 8, 1920 in Seattle. They moved to Ellensburg in June 1920 and have resided here ever since. She was at one time a member of the Friday Club and has for years been a member of Study Club. She was a member of the Madrigal Club, a member of the Cancer Education Board and of the Orthopedic Guild. She was one of the members of the original women's quartet for the early days of the Rodeo. The pallbearers at the funeral Thursday will be R. E. Rudolph, Clarence Fitterer, Louis Fitterer, Clarence Helgeson, Dr. Keith Weaver and Wayne Hertz. The honorary pallbearers will be George Bovik and Lyle Branchflower, both of Seattle, Dr. W. W. Hicks, Dr. William Devney, Clifford Kaynor, Eugene Farrell, Glenn Stewart, Herbert Bird, Victor Stevens, Tom Kirk, Alan Rogers, Dr. Robert Welding John Gilmour and John Thomas of Ellensburg and John Sherman of Yakima. Instead of the regular meeting of St. Anne's Guild Wednesday there will be a corporate communion for her of all the church guilds at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
