| Description | : | U.S. Congressman. He attended Denison University, graduated from Miami University Ohio, in 1853 and was principal of the local academy at Osceola, Missouri, in 1853. He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1855, practiced in Newark, Ohio and was president of the board of education of Newark. He was a member of the Newark City Council, prosecuting attorney of Licking County, (1857-61) and Mayor of Newark, (1860-64) and a judge of the court of common pleas in 1866.
