Read More	Gilbert (Gib) Allen Wegner, died July 29, 2013 at the Howard County Medical Center, St. Paul, Nebraska. Gib was born January 11, 1930 to Lawrence R. and Alice Yvonne (Snyder) Wegner in Palmer, Nebraska. Gib grew up in Palmer, Nebraska and graduated from Palmer (NE.) High School in 1947. He then attended Uinversity of Nebrska at Lincoln from 1947 to December 1950. Gib enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1951 with his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Having served at Fort Sumter, North Carolina; Godman Air Force Base, Kentucky; Fort Warren, Wyoming, Gib was deployed overseas to Manston Air Force Base near Margate, Kent, England. During a furlough from England, Gib returned to marry his high school sweetheart, Bettie Mae Christensen on March 8, 1953 at the First Presbyterian Church, St. Paul, Nebraska. They welcomed into this world two beautiful daughters, Julie and Linda. It was this March of 2013 that Gib and Bettie Mae celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family. Once he returned from the service in February 1954, Gib started farming and later began operating a Grade A dairy business just south of town. In 1969 he discontinued the dairy and kept farming and became a salesman for International Harvester, servicing St Paul, Nebraska and then Grand Island, Nebraska until 1994, when he retired. Gib was a founding member of the St Paul (NE.) Country Club, which began in 1956, an avid golfer in his earlier years and then actively engaged in the early morning cribbage games. Gilbert was honored by The American Legion on March 15, 2013 with the Certificate of Continuous Membership for 60 years for providing longtime and dedicated service at Post 119, St. Pail, Nebraska. Gib was a Cornhusker fan. In his later years, he enjoyed watching birds and squirrels out his picture window and playing cards. Gib is survived by loving wife, Bettie Mae Wegner of St. Paul, Nebraska; daughters, Julie Ann Shadley (Mike) of Omaha, Nebraska and Linda Alice Virine (Peter) of Lancaster, Ohio; grandson Taylor Virine; grandchildren Tim Shadley and Tracy Shadley; great grandchildren, Kaleb, Kyren and Cailee Shadley; brother & sister-in-law, Jim & Jody Wegner of Alliance, Nebraska; sister, Virginia Kiburz of Lincoln, Nebraska and a host of family and friends. Gib is preceded in death by: parents and mother-in-law, Sofia Christensen. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, St. Paul, Nebraska with military honors at graveside by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119, St. Paul, Nebraska.
