Description	:	Services for Gilbert E. Haferbier, 74, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Cannon Funeral Home, Clinton, with a scripture service read at 7 p.m. Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Haferbier died Sunday at Samaritan Hospital North, Clinton. He retired in 1976 as manager of Iowa State Liquor Store, Clinton, where he had worked for 18 years. Mr. Haferbier died Sunday at Samaritan Hospital North, Clinton. He retired in 1976 as manager of Iowa State Liquor Store, Clinton, where he had worked for 18 years. Mr. Haferbier married Patricia Hanson in 1942 in Kahoka, Mo. During World War II, he served in the Army. He participated in the battles for the Northern Apennines, Po Valley, Rome and Arno, Italy. He received three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and Fulton American Legion Post 402. He played industrial league baseball with the Curtis and Pillsbury teams. He also played with the Clinton Colored Hawks. Mr. Haferbier was a member of the Die-Hard Chicago Cubs Fan Club and loved his garden and flowers. He sold his produce at Lyons Farmers Market. He enjoyed going to the market and visiting with his friends there. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Patricia Haferbier, Clinton; sons, Terry, Dallas; Mick, Roland; and Mark, Clinton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. (Source: Quad City Times)
