He grew up in the Hampton area and received his education at Zion Lutheran Church School near Hampton. On December 18, 1938, Gilbert Driewer and Anna Blase were united in marriage at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk. The made their home in the Hampton area and farmed. In 1953, they moved to the Hordville area to farm. They retired in 1980 and moved into Hampton. Anna died on September 14, 1997. Gilbert was baptized into the Zion Lutheran Church on April 13, 1916 and confirmed on May 5, 1929. He was a member of Zion Lutheran until moving to Hordville and transferring his membership to Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk. When they returned to live in Hampton in 1980, they returned their membership to Zion Lutheran Church. Gilbert was active in all phases of church life and had been an elder and church treasurer. Gilbert and Anna enjoyed camping in their retirement and had belonged to the Cornhusker Camping Club. He also enjoyed photography, woodworking, and video taping Hordville and Hampton sites. Those left to cherish his memory are his son – Robert and Carolyn Driewer of Norfolk, his daughter-in-law Glenda Driewer of Rogers, Arkansas; five grandchildren – Matthew Driewer, Joseph Driewer, Jonathan Driewer, Michelle Hale, and Charlotte Goodreau; and four great grandchildren.
