Description	:	Gilbert Henry "Gil" Voecks, of Norfolk, Nebraska, died at Faith Regional Health Services on April 28, 2013. Gilbert was born on March 8, 1921, in Norfolk, NE, the son of Otto and Martha (Muehlmeier) Voecks. Gilbert attended Jefferson Elementary School, Christ Lutheran School and Norfolk Senior High. On August 28, 1942, Gilbert entered the US Army at Fort Leavenworth and was deployed to the European Theater. He served Algeria, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. Gilbert was born on March 8, 1921, in Norfolk, NE, the son of Otto and Martha (Muehlmeier) Voecks. Gilbert attended Jefferson Elementary School, Christ Lutheran School and Norfolk Senior High. He earned his honorable discharge on Oct 26, 1947. Gilbert returned to Norfolk. On June 2 1950, Gilbert married Betty Finley in Norfolk. They had three children, Mary, Gerry and Jeanne. Betty passed away on Nov 22, 1979. Gilbert was employed at Chicago Northwester Railroad, Old Home Bread and Keebler. He began his career with Central Finance in 1968. He earned the position of Vice President and Credit Manager. He retired in 1987. On May 20, 1987, Gilbert married Lois Benson in Tempe, AZ. They later made their home in Norfolk. Gilbert was a life-member of the V.F.W. Post of 1644 and the American Legion Post 16. He also was very active in the Elks Lodge 653, where he held many offices. He enjoyed playing golf and cards. Gilbert is survived by: wife, Lois Voecks; children, Mary Vaughn, Gerry Voecks, and Jeanne Fontenot, all of Colorado; grandchildren, Lindy Vaughn, Tristen Patterson and Aidan Fontenot; step children, Diane Kelsoe, Lori Wilson, Jamie Lyall. Gilbert was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Betty Voecks; brothers, Arnold and Art Voecks and sister, Marguarite Schaller; step children, Rod and Steven Bartee. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, Nebraska.
