De Ruiter was born April 14, 1929, in Doon, the son of Gilbert and Louise (Varder Weirf) De Ruiter. He served in the U. S. Army In the Korean War from 1951 to 1952. He married Marie Vis on September 20, 1950 in Hull. The couple lived in Hull where he worked in the ice cream division of the Hull Co-op Creamery. The couple then moved to Rock Valley where he became co-owner of the Home Dairy store. He had been employed at Roorda Machine Shop, Inc. as a welder since 1967. He was a member of the Rock Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a past deacon and current elder of First Reformed Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Phillip; three daughters, Juanita, Glenda and Shirley; a brother, James; two sisters, Faye and Margaret; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
