Description	:	Gilbert Johnson (baptized as Gulbrand Jorgensen) was born on the Mikkelsbraaten farm, in Lunner, Norway, in 1841 to Jorgen Gudmundsen and Randi Olsdtr (who married 29 Nov 1838 at Lunner). Pederson, who had also come from Norway in the fall of 1866. Her trip over the ocean had lasted 13 weeks. Gilbert and Maren heard stories of the glorious country beyond the Sioux River, so in May they went westward with oxen, crossed the Iowa border, and decided the country around what is now Fairview would make a good home. Here is where the homestead is located. There were ten children, Anna (Mrs. Albert Rodway), Lena (Mrs. Ed Thormodsgaard), Josie (Mrs. Martin Rise), George, Petra (Mrs. Rosen Ingebrigtson), and Gilman. Three children and a baby died in childhood. Gilbert was in Canton and, coming home, suffered a stroke and fell out of the buggy. Mr. Carpenter picked him up and took him to Canton where he passed away in 1905. Their son George served four years as Register of Deeds in Canton. In 1908 he was elected State Treasurer and held that office four years. He established a real estate and insurance business and did abstract work in Canton. Gilman was Register of Deeds and deputy in Canton for 12 years. He served as city assessor for five terms. He also worked in the Lincoln County Bank. Maren lived on the homestead until her death in 1920. They were members of Trinity congregation and are buried there. Their grandson Glenn Ingebrigtson and wife own the place now and live there.
