Gilbert was baptized November 29, 1925 and confirmed May 21, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Battle Creek, Nebraska. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Battle Creek (NE.) Gilbert was born November 5, 1925 in Battle Creek, Nebraska, the son of William and Anna (Wegner) Schott. Gilbert was baptized November 29, 1925 and confirmed May 21, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Battle Creek, Nebraska. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Battle Creek (NE.) High School in 1943. Gilbert was drafted into the United States Army in June 1944. He served in the European Theatre and was wounded in action. He received his Honorable Discharge May 9, 1946. On February 22, 1953 Gilbert married Arlyce Mae Kellner at Christ Lutheran Church, Norfolk, Nebraska. For the first 3 years of their marriage they lived on a farm south of Battle Creek, Nebraska in 1956 they moved to their acreage east of Norfolk, Nebraska. Gilbert worked for Hespe Construction Co. He was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church serving on various boards. Gilbert loved living on his acreage. He loved tending his large vegetable and flower garden and working in his woodworking shop. He enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Gilbert was a loving father and grandfather; Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife Arlyce on December 2, 2011, his parents and a brother Victor. Funeral services for Gilbert E. Schott, were at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church, Norfolk, Nebraska with Reverend Chip Winter as officiator. Burial was in New Lutheran Cemetery, Norfolk, Nebraska. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644, and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard.
