Found on Nov. 7, 2018. ===================== Military service for PFC Gilbert W. Olson, 29, will take place Monday and burial of the remains will take place at New Lutheran cemetery. The remains arrived Friday in Norfolk from overseas. He was born here April 5, 1915. He went into Normandy on D-Day June 6, 1944 but was killed 26 days later by shrapnel while driving a jeep at St. Lo, France. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Clara C. Olson of Norfolk, 2 brothers: Lorenzo at Rio Vista, California; Walter at Norfolk, 1 sister Mrs. Lorence Herfel at Newcastle.
