Born in Jackson County Jan. 26, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Hattie Thomas Burnem and was the last surviving member of her family. McClain CUTLER - Glady Opal McClain, 97, a 60-year resident of Cutler, passed away March 23, 2003, at her home. Born in Jackson County Jan. 26, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Hattie Thomas Burnem and was the last surviving member of her family. She received her education in the Buffalo Lick School, excelling in geography, spelling and the field of poetry. She was a model homemaker. She attended Stewart Wesleyan Church, Stewart, Ohio. She is survived by four daughters, Donna McClain of Marietta, Doris DeVore of Belpre, Judy Alkire and her husband, Roy, of Marietta and Janice of Cutler; five sons, Albert and his wife, Catherine, of Vincent, Thomas, Robert, David of Cutler and Jerry and his wife, Mable, of Torch; six grandsons, Eric, Shawn, Ryan, Jerry Ray McClain, Jed DeVore, and Decon Alkire; five granddaughters, Tamara Thomas, Christie McClain, Judi Rae DeVore, Selena Knight, and Tracy Sandford; seven great-grandsons, Tyler, Trenton, Brett, Tyler Ray McClain, Brenden, Cole Corbin Alkire, and Joshua Sandford; four great-granddaughters, Lyndsey Sandford, Ashley Knight, Haley DeVore and McKayla McClain; a special niece, Lois Bell and her husband, Don; and a special nephew, Henry Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert A. McClain; two grandchildren, Jada Devore and Roger McClain; five brothers, Robert, Jason, Guy, Eddie and Edwin Burnem; and two sisters, Orpha Hill and Orley Thomas. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville, with the Rev. Dave Cougar and the Rev. Steve Shellet officiating. Burial will be in the Graham Chapel Cemetery in Athens. Friends may call 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers are the congregation of the Stewart Wesleyan Church; active pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the Stewart Wesleyan Church Compassionate Ministries Fund.
