Gladys Anne Meyer was born March 12, 1920, on the family farm in Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of Herman Meyer and Emma Frederika [Kappen] Meyer. She was baptized and confirmed at the Grant Center Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse, "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10) This promise from God's word brought her much comfort; especially these last years. She attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools, graduating in 1937. She went on to Ellsworth College and the University of Northern Iowa, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school before her marriage on July 29, 1948, to Lewis Brauer at the Grant Center Luthern Church. To this union three children were born: Dwight, Rita, and Dee Ann. Gladys was a devoted wife and mother. She also worked for the Iowa Falls Community Schools lunch program for many years and loved to play cards. Gladys Brauer is survived by her children: Dwight Brauer of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Rita [Duane] Davis of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Dee Ann Bauer of Charleston, South Carolina; her grandchildren: Kai, Stiles, and Luba Bauer; Bekki [Steve] Majerus and family; Gretchen [Jeff] Fisher and family; Joel [Josie] Davis and family. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Emma Meyer; her husband: Lewis Brauer; her son-in-law: Ken Bauer; her borther: Kasper Meyer; and her sister: Caroline Lehman.
