Derganz, 90, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Monday, April 2, 2012, at Westchester Care Center in Tempe, Arizona. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be in the Spragueville, Iowa Cemetery. Gladys D. Bahr was born October 8, 1921 in Preston, Iowa to Claus and Dora (Berg) Bahr. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a graduate of Preston High School and also a 2 year graduate of Wartburg College. She married Leon Schnoor on July 10, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He was killed in a bulldozer accident in August of 1957. She later married Joseph Derganz in December of 1971 in Preston, when she turned Catholic and today she is truly non-denominational. Joe preceded her in death in 1989. After graduating from college, Gladys taught in rural schools until her marriage in 1942. In 1960 with health problems in her family she moved to Tempe, Arizona where she bought and managed "Sunset Vista Apartments" for 10 years. She returned to Iowa in 1971 and spent the remaining years surrounding her home in Maquoketa assisting her husband Joe with Derganz Electric and Refrigeration until Joe's passing. In later years, Gladys donated many hours to the Jackson County Volunteer program with main stations at Maquoketa Community Services, Maquoketa Care Center, Jackson County Public Hospital and at Westchester Care Center in Tempe, Arizona during winter months from 1981 until her passing. Gladys is survived by 3 daughters, Gloria (Rodney) Genant of Gilbert, AZ, Carole (John) Swanson of Phoenix, AZ, and Donna (Ron) Jorgensen of Tempe, AZ; 4 step-children, Linda (Chuck) Borchers of Toronto, IA, JoAnn (Richard) Mensing of Lowden, IA, Larry (Diane) Derganz of Maquoketa, IA and Kenneth (Sharon) Derganz of Maquoketa, IA; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother Raymond (Avelda) Bahr of Andrew, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and a brother, LaVern Bahr who died on May 6, 2006.
