Description	:	SISSETON — Gladys Elizabeth Etl, 89, Sisseton, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, in a hospital at Sisseton. Funeral services will be Friday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Eden with the Rev. Thomas Cool officiating. Burial will be in the St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery at Eden. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Jeff and Mike Lehman, Chris and Trevis Etl, Duane Streier and David Pearson. Visitation will be in the Cahill Funeral Chapel at Sisseton. Gladys Elizabeth Ellenbecker was born May 7, 1918, to Mike and Katherine (Schuster) Ellenbecker in Eden, where she was raised. She married George Etl Sr. Nov. 23, 1936, at Eden. They raised five children on the Etl family farm, three miles east of Eden, where they lived for 65 years. She enjoyed her family, especially getting together for music and played along with her accordion or piano. Music has always been important to her. She often told stories of going along with her father to play for barn dances, she on the piano and her father on the violin. She also enjoyed gardening, canning and was a great at cooking old-fashioned German foods. She made the best poppy seed rolls. She worked hard alongside her husband on the farm, helping in the fields or the chores. She loved the prairie. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include five children, Gene and Shirley Etl of Vadnais Heights, Minn., Mrs. Geraldine Lehman of Mound View, Minn., Georgia and Joe Streier of Sisseton, George and Donna Etl Jr. of Mansfield and Gayle and James Pearson of Sisseton; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
