She lived her entire life in Humboldt County and was very proud that her great grandparents, Elias and Sarah Myers, settled and started the community of Myers Flat. Read More	NOTE: Gladys shares a headstone with her first husband, Gerald Swanson. ________________________________ Gladys Swanson Santose, a native of Humboldt County, passed away on February 20, 2009, in Eureka, California, 2 days after her 87th birthday. She lived her entire life in Humboldt County and was very proud that her great grandparents, Elias and Sarah Myers, settled and started the community of Myers Flat. She loved her family dearly and was proud to be a descendent of the Myers pioneer family. Gladys started her nursing career as a nurse’s aid working at the Scotia Hospital until its closure. She worked at Redwood Memorial Hospital for 27 years. During her employment at Redwood she went to night school and acquired her LVN license. In later years she was promoted to the position of Purchasing Agent. She was married to Jerry Swanson for 31 years until his death in 1972. She later married Dick Santose until he passed away in 1994. Gladys always felt blessed to be loved by two very special men. Gladys is survived by her son, Wayne Swanson and wife Pat of Fortuna; daughter Judy Cox and husband Ed of Arcata; grandchildren Wayne Cox of Windsor, Bryan Cox and wife Kimberly of Arcata, Tina Walters and Husband Ken of Eureka, and Ty Swanson and wife Le-Ora of Lewiston, Idaho; great grandchildren Jesse, Eden, Sarah, L.E., Elias; and numerous nieces. She was preceded in death by parents Grafford and Gladys Myers; sister Gay Hackney; brother Terry Myers; and daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Swanson. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Eureka Health and Rehabilitation for their compassion and consideration.
