Description	:	Gladys Kerr was born October 12, 1908 in Olds, Alberta, Canada to Abraham and Evalina Smalley. She passed away December 9, 2010 at Where The Heart Is in Burlington, Washington. The family moved to Burlington in 1916, where Gladys attended schools, graduating from high school in 1927. In August, 1928 Gladys married Jamie Kerr of Edison, and they lived in various locations in Skagit County. Read More	Gladys Kerr was born October 12, 1908 in Olds, Alberta, Canada to Abraham and Evalina Smalley. She passed away December 9, 2010 at Where The Heart Is in Burlington, Washington. The family moved to Burlington in 1916, where Gladys attended schools, graduating from high school in 1927. In August, 1928 Gladys married Jamie Kerr of Edison, and they lived in various locations in Skagit County. She was an avid hunter all her life and journeyed to Alaska to hunt moose and caribou with her daughter. She also had many other interests throughout her life, including making beautiful needlepoint pieces and hand hooked rugs, china painting and cooking for family and friends. Gladys thoroughly enjoyed meeting and visiting with people and worked in the food service business most of her life, starting with the Planter Hotel in La Conner in 1928. In addition to waiting tables, she had owned restaurants in Mount Vernon and Alaska. Gladys finally retired, from The Royal Fork in Mount Vernon, when she was in her early 90's. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Jamie; daughter, Yvonne Horton; and son Jimmie Kerr. She is survived by granddaughter, Melissa Kerr Molstad; twin great-granddaughters, Brittany and Breanna; and nephew, Cecil Thomas. The family would like to give special thanks to Maria, Elba and Jackie and the rest of the staff at Where The Heart Is where Gladys lived for six and a half years. Also to Hospice Of The Northwest for addressing her special needs during her final months. Memorial services for Gladys will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Kern Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Hospice of the Northwest, 819 South 13th Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98274.
