Description	:	GLADYS McCOMAS CHILDERS, 91, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Chesapeake, Ohio, died peacefully on June 21, 2009. She was born in Cabell County, West Virginia, the eldest child of S.G. and Ida McComas. She was predeceased by her three siblings, C.G. "June" McComas, Harold McComas and Marjorie Asbury. She was the widow of William J. Childers. Survivors include her daughter, Sue Childers Taylor and husband Patrick M.P. She was born in Cabell County, West Virginia, the eldest child of S.G. and Ida McComas. She was predeceased by her three siblings, C.G. "June" McComas, Harold McComas and Marjorie Asbury. She was the widow of William J. Childers. Survivors include her daughter, Sue Childers Taylor and husband Patrick M.P. Taylor of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren Patrick Taylor and his wife Robin of Quincy, Ill., Jordan Taylor of Charlottesville, Va., and Susanna Taylor of San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandchildren Cassandra and Greyson Taylor of Quincy, Ill.; sisters-in-law Helen Childers of Richmond, Va., and Betty Childers of South Point, Ohio; a devoted niece, Connie Merb of Proctorville, Ohio, as well as, a number of other nieces and nephews. Gladys was an active member of Bethel Methodist Church in Chesapeake, Ohio, teaching Sunday school and serving as treasurer for many years. She was very involved in civic affairs and was a member of the Chesapeake Women's' Club and Homemakers Club and a founder of the Chesapeake Garden Club. She was instrumental in starting the first library in Chesapeake. She was employed for a number of years at Van Zandt Supply Company, and later in the dental office of Dr. Brooks Drake. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Gladys was known for her gracious hospitality and her willingness to help others. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Ohio. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the loyal friends from Bethel Church who have visited her and kept in contact with her during the nearly five years that she has lived in Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bethel Methodist Church c/o Harold Sheets, 16572 County Road 243, Chesapeake, OH 45619.
