Born on her family's farm near Clarksville, she attended rural country school at Freemont 4 in Butler County. Her parents were Ernest and Melusine Mueller Klunder. On Feb. 11, 1941 she was united in marriage to Arthur Stobbe Feb. 11, 1941, at Pleasant Valley Church in rural Clarksville. Mr. Stobbe passed away on October 21, 1979. Born on her family's farm near Clarksville, she attended rural country school at Freemont 4 in Butler County. Her parents were Ernest and Melusine Mueller Klunder. On Feb. 11, 1941 she was united in marriage to Arthur Stobbe Feb. 11, 1941, at Pleasant Valley Church in rural Clarksville. Mr. Stobbe passed away on October 21, 1979. Gladys and Arthur couple farmed together, and she also worked as a cook at the Corner Cafe for 25 years. Many in the Clarksville area fondly remember Gladys Stobbe and her sister, Arlene, operating the A & G popcorn stand in Clarksville for more than 25 years. She was also a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Gladys leaves behind a son, David (Merna) of Shell Rock, her son-in-law, Don Cain of Shell Rock,; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Lila Peters of Waverly. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Verna Mae Cain, six brothers, Otto, William, Alvin, Ewald, Harvey and Ernest Klunder, and four sisters, Lela Wedeking, Meta Kolb, Arlene Klunder. Her sister Esther died in infancy. Services for Gladys will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday August 30th at her church. Following the service interment will be in the Lynwood Cemetery of Clarksville. The Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She will be missed by all who knew her...
