Description	:	Gladys Marie Sample, 98, of Greeley, formerly of Scotia, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Greeley Care Home. Gladys was born June 7, 1912, on the family homestead near Horace in Greeley County to Nicholas and Nellie (Johnson) Wetzel. Gladys was raised on the family farm and graduated from Scotia High School in 1930. On Nov. 26, 1930, Gladys was united in marriage to Lester Sample at Ord. Read More	Gladys Marie Sample, 98, of Greeley, formerly of Scotia, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Greeley Care Home. Gladys was born June 7, 1912, on the family homestead near Horace in Greeley County to Nicholas and Nellie (Johnson) Wetzel. Gladys was raised on the family farm and graduated from Scotia High School in 1930. On Nov. 26, 1930, Gladys was united in marriage to Lester Sample at Ord. The couple first resided on a farm near Scotia. From September of 1941 to November of 1945 the couple resided in Alliance, Scottsbluff and other railroad towns. During that time Lester worked on the railroad while Gladys was a cook on the railroad. They returned to the Scotia where they lived on a farm until moving into Scotia in 1965. Gladys worked as a telephone operator and as a clerk at Bredthauer's Department Store in Scotia. She was a seamstress and operated a gift shop out of her home. Gladys made clothing for her family and many pieces of Barbie Doll Clothing. Lester passed away in 1979. Gladys continued to make her home in Scotia until 1991, when she moved to North Loup and has been a resident at the Greeley Care Home since 1994. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She had a collection of dolls, spoons and bells. Gladys had a love for horses and cats. Survivors are: grandchildren and their spouses, Darcy and Willis Cronk of Ord, Neill and Deb Thompson of North Loup, Darren and Patty Thompson of Cotesfield and Gale Thompson and Brandi Lempke of Lincoln; 13 great-grandchildren and 29 great great-grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Yvonne and Don Thompson; great great-grandson, Jessie Cronk; brother, Frank Wetzel and sisters, Ruby Wetzel, Sylvia Foster and Ollie Buffington.
