Description	:	YATES, GLADYS PATRICIA—Gladys Patricia Payne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Payne, was born March 7, 1913, on the family farm near Leet, Lincoln county, West Virginia. She attended school at Leet and was a graduated of Leet high school. November 24, 1928, she was united in marriage to Brice Edward Smith of Gill, W. Va. To this union were born two sons, Warren Billy and Bobby Edward. The family resided at Gill until Mr. Smith's death, February 14, 1939. Payne, was born March 7, 1913, on the family farm near Leet, Lincoln county, West Virginia. She attended school at Leet and was a graduated of Leet high school. November 24, 1928, she was united in marriage to Brice Edward Smith of Gill, W. Va. To this union were born two sons, Warren Billy and Bobby Edward. The family resided at Gill until Mr. Smith's death, February 14, 1939. Following Mr. Smith's death, she accepted employment at the Kaiser shipyards in Vancouver, Wash. Her objective through this period of her life was to keep her two sons with her and to see that both received an education. For her work at the shipyards during World War II, she received a commendation and a certificate of merit from the war department. She was married August 25, 1945, to Marion Yates of Geneva, who also was employed in defense work at the shipyards during World War II. Shortly after the marriage the family moved to Geneva, where Mr. Yates started a successful welding business. During this time the sons graduated from Geneva high school. She passed away Thursday afternoon, February 7, 1952, at the age of 38 years and 11 months. Survivors besides her husband and her two sons, Warren of Geneva and Bobby of Lincoln, include her aged parents; four sisters, Mrs. Wesley Hager of Leet, W.V., Mrs. Watson Spurlock of Madison, W. Va., Mrs. Albert Tomlin of Henlawson, W. Va., and Mrs. Cesco Toler of Columbus, O.; three brothers, Theodore Pyne and Walton Pyne of Leet, W. Va., and William Payne of Madison, W. Va. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, February 10, at 2:30 p'clock at the Kritner funeral hom in Geneva. Rev. J. M. Ruthven of Geneva officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
