Gordon Wiebe officiating. Burial was in the Emmanuel Church Cemetery. Gladys Tschetter was born on March 13, 1922 to John MK Tschetter and Katie (Hofer) Tschetter. She attended Lake Byron Country School through the 8th grade. She experienced the hardship during the dirty 30's. She often spoke about Lake Byron being dry. Their home was one mile north of the lake and the smell of dead fish and dust were a vivid memory for her. On June 29, 1940, she married Harold Tschetter and moved to the farm where she spent 67 years of her life. The most important part of her life was her love for her Lord and Savior. When she was about 12 years old, she attended a gospel tent meeting that was held south of Bloomfield. There she received the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. In 1939, Pastor Jake Friesen baptized her at Emmanuel Church. She read her Bible daily. After Harold died, Hjalmer remembers going to her house in the morning and she would be at her kitchen table with her Bible open and praying. In looking through her Bible and on her night stand, we found written lists and printed cards of individuals she prayed for – fellow church members, missionaries, JVCS staff and others. Her church was of utmost importance to her. All her life she attended Emmanuel Church. She enjoyed serving as Junior Sunday School Superintendent, singing in the choir and working with many projects for the Emmanuel Ladies Fellowship. Gladys and Harold were very interested in mission work. In 1963 they took a trip to Mali, West Africa to visit Harold's brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Angie. The trip also included a few days in the Holy Land. A few years later they visited missionary friends in Belize, South America. Then in 1993 she again traveled to Israel. Her interest in missions included James Valley Christian School. For many years, she volunteered in the kitchen. She also volunteered at Child Evangelism Fellowship both at the state and national offices. She loved it on the farm. As a child, she would run to the field to call her dad for dinner. He would put her on the horse to ride home. She enjoyed the farm animals, especially when newborn ones arrived. Her love for the land never grew old. Until the last five years of her life she enjoyed operating almost every piece of farm machinery. She enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up her. She loved to give them rides on her 4-wheeler. Her prayers will follow them for the rest of their lives. She has left us with the memory of a God fearing woman. Through her last illness, her faith stayed strong. During one of her last days, Janet said to her "I wish you would not have to suffer so." And her response was "The Lord knows best." We shared some precious time together. She enjoyed it when we read from the Bible and the Daily Bread devotional. Thank you to you her friends. Especially during the last year and a half, many visited her. The visits, cards, letters and emails brightened her day. Grateful for having shared in her life are her son and his wife, Hjalmer and Janet, of Huron; one granddaughter Joyetta (Paul) Hattouni of Lakeville, Minnesota; and one grandson Jay (Vanessa) Tschetter of Eagan, Minnesota; five great-grandchildren: Andrea, Kaitlin and Emily Hattouni, and Jaren and Lindsey Tschetter. Also grateful for being part of her life are her sister-in-law, Adena (Alvin) Tschetter of Huron, her nephew LeRoy (Joyce) Tschetter of Sioux Falls, nieces Twila (Victor) Gross of Hitchcock and Nita (Myron) Tschetter of Warrenton, Missouri, and many special friends.
