Jerry Wayne Gainey, son of Mrs. Gainey, and The Rev. Tommy Gaskin will officiate directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olivet Church Family Life Center, 1652 Mt. Olivet Church Road, Patrick, SC 29584. Friends may pay their respect to Mrs. Gainey from noon until 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the service. Mrs. Gainey died Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Born in Darlington Co., SC, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Ruth Linton Griggs. She retired from Burlington Industries in Cheraw, SC after 30 years of service and became a caretaker for the elderly upon retiring. Mrs. Gainey was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Patrick, SC since 1980 and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. Especially joyful to her were the children of the church and their Christmas plays and singing. Mrs. Gainey was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She cherished her family and her love of life was spending time with them. She enjoyed gardening in earlier years, growing beautiful flowers and reading her bible. Surviving are her loving children, James Philip (Ann) Gainey of Patrick, SC, Rev. Jerry Wayne (Cathy) Gainey of Patrick, SC, Larry Lavern (Shirley) Gainey of Patrick, SC, Brenda Gail (Gary) Duvall of Patrick, SC, Betty Jean (Doug) Bruner of Batesburg-Leesville, SC, Barbara Faye (James) Gainey of Hartsville, SC; brothers, Hugh Griggs of Hartsville, SC, Lemuel Griggs of Hartsville, SC; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
