Read More	IN MEMORIAM Glen and Forest Christy The double funeral and burial of Glen and Forest Christy, Saturday after noon, November 6th, 1920, at Floris, was one of the saddest in recent year s. The brothers, eldest in the family of ten were victims of an accident at the Iowa Avenue crossing in Ottumwa early Thursday morning, November 4th, tragic in its details of instant death and almost obliberation of human form and recognition. Forest was born on the home farm near Floris, December 10, 1895, as was Glen on November 2, 1898 and there grew in to young manhood. December 11, 1917, Glen enlisted in the army through Fort Logan, Colorado, Forest joining his brother in service March 5, 1918. Both brothers saw service in France. Glen sailing August 18 and Forest on August 22nd, 1918. Glen was made a corporal in the R.S.O. No. 15 while Forest was made a private 1st class in the Evacuation Hospital Unit No. 15, and while with them saw service in the Meuse-Argonne battle. The brothers were sent back to the U.S. in the same casual group and arrived here on June 18, 1919 and were later discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa, June 25th together. Both boys on completing their grade school work attended the Southern Iowa Normal at Bloomfield, and Glen later graduated from the Iowa Success Business college at Ottumwa. The boys had obtained employment at the John Morrell Packing co., and were employed as messengers, one relieving the other at the time of the fatal accident. It is said in their commendation, that both boys were exceptionally good young men, always obedient to their parents. Even to their ultimely demise they never failed to consult with their father as to the best for their welfare. For this and their cheerful dipositions they were loved and respected to all of their associates and friends. The fiancees of the two brothers were the Misses Ester and Mildred Childs of Coatsville, Missouri, who were working and planning for their future homes and to whom the accident comes as a shock indeed, wrecking the happy plans and thoughts of the future. The funeral services were held from the Baptist church at Floris, of which Glen was a member, Forest uniting with the Y.M.C.A. in France. The services were conducted by Rev. J.M. Hawkins of Lancaster and Rev. Luther Childs of Coatsville, Mo. A detail of 35 men from the Davis county post of the American Legion, Verne O Reed, No. 78 under the direction of ex- Lieut. Sam Wray of which both boys were charter members, escorted the remains from the home to the church, forming a guard of honor at the entrance and later grouped around the caskets during the services. At the Floris, I.O.O.F. cemetery the burial was made in one double grave and following the prayer a squad and bugler from the O.B. Nelson Post at Ottumwa fired a salute and blew Taps the soldiers last call. The brothers leave to sorrow, an aged grandmother, and their father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. David Christy, four brothers Floyd, Harry, Stewart, and Verbal, and four sisters Mrs. Freda Carrol, Selma, Iowa, Mrs. Myrtle Daugherty, Charles City, Iowa, Misses Eva and Opal at home and a host of associates and friends.
