Rhoad Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Spacht was born June 10, 1886 at Sargent to Mr. and Mrs. John Karl Spacht. His parents were among the early Sargent settlers, coming from Pottstown, Pa. to Seward in a covered wagon and on to Sargent in 1883 where they operated a general store for a number of years. He attended Sargent schools and grew to manhood in the Sargent community. On October 17, 1909, he was married to Grace Brumbaugh at Taylor. They were in the hotel business for 45 years, operating hotels in Sargent, Broken Bow, Kearney and Franklin. In 1955, they retired and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1959. Mrs. Spacht died in 1960. He had been a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and also was a member of the Sargent town board. Mr. Spacht served as mayor in Franklin for eight years. He was also a member of United Commercial Travelers of Hasting, and the B.P.O.E. Lodge, Grand Island. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Mildred Gilsdorf, granddaughter, Gwendolyn Gilsdorf, Phoenix, Arizona, brother, Jay D. Spacht, Snyder, New York, sister, Mrs. Linda Carroll, Los Angeles, California, and a niece, Mrs. Maxine Robertson, Chandler, Arizona. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a son.
