Description	:	Glen Eldon Hutches, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his home in Vilas, Colorado. He was born to Vess and Iris Hutches on January 25, 1934 at the family home south of Vilas. He spent his younger years at the farm herding cattle for his dad. On one of their excursions, dad slid over the head of the horse and a hoof slid down his... Read More	Glen Eldon Hutches, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his home in Vilas, Colorado. He was born to Vess and Iris Hutches on January 25, 1934 at the family home south of Vilas. He spent his younger years at the farm herding cattle for his dad. He had a very special friend that lived a mile west of them by the name of Harold Brooks. They rode horses every day and got into all kinds of mischief. On one of their excursions, dad slid over the head of the horse and a hoof slid down his back causing some damage that would affect him in later life. He attended school in Vilas and was just there to give the teachers the benefit of his vast knowledge. On July 23, 1950 he married the love of his life and together they were blessed with 5 wonderful, talented, smart children. He farmed several years with his brother in law Walter Hamilton, was a partsman for Leon Harlan at the Massey Ferguson dealer, custom work, and then into custom harvesting starting at Vernon, Texas, and ending at Eads, Colorado. Mom and the two younger girls went with him several years. The stories dad would tell about his harvest crew kept us all in stitches. Dad was teaching Robyn how to drive the L2 combine and she came whipping up to the truck to unload and hit it. Dad told Robyn that Pret shouldn't have parked the truck so close. Tammie was our #1 grain cart driver. The combine drivers had to put it in road gear to keep up with her. Pret was moving the combine and started down a rather large hill and the machine jumped out of gear. Dad happened to be at the bottom of the hill relieving himself. He looks up and Preston and the runaway combine were headed for him. Needless to say he moved pretty fast. Gale decided to help the Porters out with a new irrigation ditch which happened to be dug by a very flat rear tire. Made dad proud. Vie remembers dad trying to dig out the combine when Ronnie Drossemeyer buzzed him in the spray plane. Dad banged his head and the cussing commenced. The family get-togethers were something we all looked forward to. The laughing, joking, poker playing and so many other things we enjoyed. Daddy, you will be missed so much,it won't be the same without your crooked smile, funny stories and getting your tongue tied when you did your auctioneering. Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Vess and Iris; brothers, Vess Leroy, Charles and sister, Florence. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Idrys; daughter Gale and Darrell Henderson of Satanta, KS, son Vic and Mollie Hutches of Dumas, TX, son Preston and Linda Hutches of Walsh,CO, daughter Tammie and Craig Doyle of Ulysses, KS and daughter Robyn and Heath Perdue of Lamar, CO, brother Leonard Hutches of Wiley CO, sisters-in-law Linda Hutches of Springfield, CO, Geraldine Hamilton of Lamar, CO and Margie Hutches of Vilas, CO. Grandchildren Brian Kirby, Chance Kirby, Ashley Hall, Chad Hutches, TJ Gaddy, Tanya Burk, Jeff Chenoweth, Diane Painter, Rhona Walters, Bruce Walters, Mandy Feldman, Jenny Roe, Sterling Doyle, Zac Perdue, Sabra Perdue, Zane Perdue, Zeb Perdue, 29 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
