Description	:	Glen Richenberger, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, December 19, 2013, at his home. Born August 25, 1927 in rural Wayland, IA, Glen Essley was the son of Jacob C. "Jake" and Druzilla Ann (Essley) Richenberger. He was a 1945 graduate of Wayland High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Born August 25, 1927 in rural Wayland, IA, Glen Essley was the son of Jacob C. "Jake" and Druzilla Ann (Essley) Richenberger. He was a 1945 graduate of Wayland High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During World War II, Glen was assigned to the USS De Haven and the USS Chicago. His service took him to the coast of China, Guam, Japan and the South Pacific. Upon his discharge, he had obtained the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. Glen married Geraldine Kaiser. The couple later divorced. On January 20, 1973, he married Patricia Denning in Kahoka, MO. When his military service ended, Glen found employment at the Ammunition Plant. Later, he began painting with Alfred Wagler. In 1962, he started a 28 year career at the Mental Health Institute in the maintenance department. He retired in 1989 from the Mt. Pleasant Treatment Center. Glen was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2561 and American Legion Post #58. He was a member of the Midwest Central Railroad, the USS De Haven Sailors Association, Burlington Route Society, Lionel Collectors Club of America, the Lionel Railroader Club and the Washington Railroad Club. Glen always enjoyed going to auctions, railroad shows and flea markets, participating in the Hy-Vee and Hardees coffee clubs and spending time with his pets, Harry and Weeber. Preceding him in death, were Glen's parents, a brother, Max Richenberger; and two sisters, Mae Richenberger and Cecile Richenberger.
