Friday, March 12, at the South Sunol Cemetery in Sunol, Neb., located at Cheyenne County Roads 10 and 137. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home of Sidney, Neb. is in charge of the arrangements. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home of Sidney, Neb. is in charge of the arrangements. Glen Everett Kokes was born Jan. 21, 1924 at Lodgepole, Neb., the son of Frank and Mary (Vosika) Kokes. He attended the Barber School North of Crook through the 8th grade. He farmed in the area until the the late 1960s, when he owned and operated the Inferno Tavern liquor store and dinner club in Crook until 1980. From the 1960s through the mid-1970s he was involved in the Nebraska Panhandle Civil Air Patrol in Sidney. He reached the rank of commander and was very instrumental in establishing the CAP cadet program. He was a life member of BPOE Elks Lodge No. 1336 in Sterling, the Crook Historical Society, Logan County Farmer's Market, past member of the Crook Volunteer Fire Department, and a past member of the Crook Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening, raising fruit trees, carpentry, cards, and cooking. He is survived by three daughters, Marteena and husband Ron Ring of Crook, Carol and husband Larry Babcock of Kansas City, Mo., and Kelley and husband Todd Rothleutner of Kilgore, Neb.; four sons, Alvin and wife Carol Burkhart of Greeley, Paul Kokes of Desert Aire, Wash., Mike Kokes of Kersey, and John and wife Jeri Kokes of Berthoud; a brother, Melvin and wife Margaret Kokes of Crook; a sister, Margie and husband Chet Bruns of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.; eleven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Crook Volunteer Fire and Rescue or the Crook Historical Society, in care of Marteena Ring, 40597 C.R. 58.5, Crook, Co. 80726.
