A gloom was cast over this community early Friday morning when it was learned that the silent death messenger had entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mathews during the late hours of night and removed their precious little gem, Glenn Devon, at the tender age of 7 months and 28 days, the culmination of a brief illness of only seven days of pneumonia fever. The beautiful life went out Thursday night as the uncompromising clock struck off the hour of ten. Only the memory of the lovely boy is left, yet how sweet, how uplifting its influence. When death strikes down the innocent and young, for every fragile form from which he lets the parting spirit free, a hundred virtues rise, in shapes of mercy, charity and love, to walk the world and bless it. Of every tear that sorrowing mortals shed on such fresh graves, some good is born, some gentle nature comes. Beautiful and impressive funeral services were conducted from the home Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. J. Paris Cox, of Wheeler, Ind., former pastor of the M. E. Church here and Rev. H. J. Richards and the little one was laid to its final resting place in the new Highland cemetery. The many friends here of Rev. J. Paris Cox, who came here from Wheeler, Sunday, to preach the funeral of little Glenn Devon Mathews, prevailed upon him to remain over Sunday evening and occupy the pulpit at the M. E. Church. --The North Judson News (North Judson, IN), Thurs., Feb. 29, 1912, Pg. 1 *Baby Glenn Devon Mathews was interred in the Pioneer Cemetery, not in the Highland Cemetery as is indicated in the obituary.*
