Description	:	Glenn E. Hawks, 81, of Lexington, died Aug. 8, 2016, at Lexington Regional Health Center. Glenn was born on Dec. 11, 1934, in Gothenburg to George and Anna (Bailey) Hawks. Glenn’s father died when he was 7 years old and he moved in with the Bailey grandparents. Glenn’s mother then married Lewis Schultz and moved to Lexington, where he attended high school. Glenn was born on Dec. 11, 1934, in Gothenburg to George and Anna (Bailey) Hawks. Glenn’s father died when he was 7 years old and he moved in with the Bailey grandparents. Glenn’s mother then married Lewis Schultz and moved to Lexington, where he attended high school. On June 2, 1953, Glenn married JoAnne Warren in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this marriage, Scott, Jim and Lori. Glenn started working for the City of Lexington on May 25, 1950, at the age of 15. His first job was mowing grass at the cemetery and parks. From there, he worked at the water department, and moved on to the electric department. He urged the establishment of the city maintenance building in the 1950s. When the city built the new maintenance building, they named it in his honor. Over the course of his career, he has served foreman of most city utility and maintenance departments. In 2016, Community Services Director Glenn Hawks was honored with a 65 year award, but in reality he wrapped up his 66th year in May. More than six and half decades is enough time to wear a lot of different hats, and throughout his service with the city, Hawks has done almost everything, from cutting grass in parks when he was 15 to overseeing that same parks system later in his career. He’s worked in the water department, climbed poles and done electrical work, overseen street improvements and even managed the department that handled the landfill back when he said, “the city was still in that business.” Glenn was a good athlete who enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He enjoyed throwing horseshoes and traveled throughout the state playing in many tournaments. Glenn was an avid fisherman, which he passed down to his daughter and grandchildren. He also liked to hunt. Glenn and JoAnne traveled to Branson, Missouri, for vacation for many years, which he continued to do after her death with his companion of 10 years, Linda Linke. But most importantly, Glenn loved the city of Lexington. He was very humble and loved serving the people of Lexington. He will be greatly missed by the community. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; stepparent; wife, JoAnne; son, Scott; sister, Georgia Ann Tappan; and half-sister, Patty Pickering. Survivors include his children, Jim (Janelle) Hawks, of North Platte, Lori (significant other, Kurt Grosshans) MacDonald, of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Kristi Hawks, of Ardmore, Oklahoma; companion, Linda Linke, of Cozad; six grandchildren, Matthew (Briana) Hawks, of Sutherland, Nate (Amy) Hawks, of North Platte, Jennifer (Jonathan) Carter, of Lincoln, Jordan (significant other, Kay Shaw) MacDonald, of Lincoln, Ryan MacDonald, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Leah MacDonald, of Lincoln; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Bob (Genie) Hawks, of Lexington; two half-brothers, Lewis Jr. (Nancy) Shultz, of Cortez, Colorado, and Ronny (Judy) Schultz, of Ulysses, Kansas; three stepbrothers: Gary (Edna) Schultz, of Lexington, Jerry (Carole) Schultz, of Pahrump, and Terry (Audry) Schultz, of Manor, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family; and many friends. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Josh Stibb, officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home, Lexington is in charge of the arrangements.
