Burial at Rose Hill Memorial Garden with full military honors provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard of the surrounding area. Born on July 20, 1932, Glenn was the youngest son of Louie and Gertrude (Ehler) Lafrenz. He was born on the family farm east of Laurel, joining his older siblings Bernice, Elgin "Bud", Esthermae, and Bettyann. On March 1, 1941, Glenn moved into the farmhouse at 3270 Reed Avenue. For the remaining 80 years of his life, he called this his home. Glenn attended Laurel High School where he graduated in 1949. Glenn served in the Navy from 1955 through 1957. He trained at boot camp in North Chicago and was stationed in San Diego and deployed aboard the USS Snohomish, LST 1126. His service included a Pacific tour of Pearl Harbor, Midway, Okinawa, Japan, and the Philippines. On October 5, 1957, he married Nancy Ann Rollstin of Newton. Glenn and Nancy spent nearly every day of their married lives together. Glenn was a livestock and crop farmer until the early 1980's. He then worked at Midwest Manufacturing until retiring in 1996. He was a hard-working and generous man, and a meticulous caretaker of the soil. He and Nancy grew beautiful gardens and shared their bountiful harvests with neighbors, friends, and family for many years. Glenn loved his children and grandchildren, faithfully attending numerous concerts, recitals, basketball games, plays, and track meets in both Iowa and Michigan. Glenn is survived by his wife Nancy, his children; Mike (Kristi) Lafrenz of Stevensville, Michigan, and Michele (Glenn) Schillinger of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren,Kate (Nick Molloy) and Erin (Ian Marzke) Lafrenz, Jessica (Curtis) Jorgensen, Grant, Joanna (Wes Gardner), Joel, Sarah and Gina Schillinger; his sister Bettyann Allen; brother-in-law Chuck Osbor; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Bernice (Marvin) Ceaser; brother Elgin "Bud" (Marge) Lafrenz; sister Esthermae (Virgil) Strand; and sister-in-law Rachael Osborn. Glenn was laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown, Iowa. Pallbearers were Mark Allen, John Allen, Jack Allen, Kevin Lazard, Ken Lafrenz, Curtis Jorgensen, and John Byerly. Honorary Pallbearers were Joel Schillinger, Grant Schillinger, Galen Pille, Eric Howard, and Steve Eibs. Mitchell Family Funeral Home was entrusted with the care of Glenn and his family.
