(Source: Yuma County, CO Marriage Records) ==================== The Benkelman Post and News-Chronicle (Benkelman, NE), Thursday, November 12, 1964; pg. 1 Accident Is Fatal To Glenn Kuhns Internal Injuries Claim Life of Prominent Haigler Farmer Glenn Kuhns, well known farmer of the Haigler area, passed away in a Denver hospital on Friday of injuries sustained in a farm machine accident at his farm on Wednesday morning. He was 65 years of age. Mr. Kuhns' had been taken to the Denver hospital on Wednesday afternoon for treatment of his injuries. He underwent emergency plastic surgery in an effort to save an ear which had been severely damaged in the accident and was apparently making a satisfactory recovery from that operation when the other injuries from the accident began to take effect and he rapidly developed a critical condition which continued to his demise on Friday. The accident occurred on the Kuhns farm while Mr. Kuhns was operating a tractor-powered posthole digger. He was standing on the rig during a drilling operation when the automatic release raised the mechanism and he fell. In the fall he became entwined in the revolving auger and was drawn through a small opening between the auger and the guiding rod rig. In his passage through the opening he sustained two fractured ribs, various internal injuries, laceration of one ear, a deep face cut and a number of other cuts and bruises. He made his way to his home in a pickup and then was rushed to the Pringle Methodist Hospital in Jay Janousek's ambulance where he was given emergency attention by Dr. Kenneth Stout, who recommended his transfer to the Denver hospital for specialist attention. He was flown to Denver by plane. Mr. Kuhns was a very popular man in the county for his friendly spirit, honesty and strength of character. He was a good neighbor and was devoted to all things good for the community. He was a worker in the Methodist Church of Haigler and as a member of Justice Lodge No. 180, AF&AM, he distinguished himself as a student of the art and became known as a fine workman of the craft. He served as Worshipful Master of the Lodge and was always willing and capable of rendering various services when the need was made known. He was also a member of Holly Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Past Patron of that order. He will be sadly missed in these precincts as well as in the Haigler community. Glenn Kuhns, son of John and Emmaline Kuhns, was born on May 21, 1899, at Cedar Bluffs, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Johnson on July 29, 1927. To this union one son was born, Calvin Ray, who passed away June 17, 1945. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Haigler of which he was very proud to be a part. He also was a member of Justice Lodge No 180 AF&AM and Holly Chapter No. 233, O.E.S. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Woofter and family and Mrs. Mabel King and family. Funeral services were held at the Haigler Methodist Church in Haigler on Monday afternoon with the Rev. John Reid officiating. Mrs. Paul Erdman was the organist and the singers, Ross D. Druliner, Jr., and a trio, Don Harford, Ray Harford and Dale Faylor. Casketbearers were Murray Evans, Paul Kamla, Oscar Samler, Neal Clegg, Roy Walter and Wayne McVey. Ward McGlashan represented the Masonic fraternity in the last rites at the graveside in the Benkelman Cemetery. Jay's Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
