Glenn LaVerne was born on Dec. 24, 1918, at Cairo to Glenn and Ella (Whitehead) Roberts. Glenn LaVerne married Hannah Evans on May 19, 1942. She died on May 27, 1984. Survivors are: wife, Maxine; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Jacquelyn Roberts and Raymond and Julie Roberts; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Joyce and Bill Heger; stepson, Gordon Sorensen; grandchildren and their spouses, Kristine and Chris Bridgewater, Jennifer and Jim Langenberg, Matthew and Anne Roberts, and Jill and Tim Alford; stepgrandchildren, Ann and husband, Bruce Gonzalez, Trevor Sorensen, Scott Sorensen and Renee Sorensen, Andrew Heger and Aaron Heger, and Heather and husband, Art Trezise; six great-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. Glenn grew up in Cairo and graduated from Cairo High School in 1937. Glenn LaVerne moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman. He met his first wife in Salt Lake City. They returned to Cairo in 1944, and LaVerne purchased a freight trucking business. In 1948, he bought a well-drilling business. In 1950, he began working as a salesman for Aermotor Co., traveling western Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. LaVerne enjoyed his job and received numerous sales awards. He became good friends with many of his customers. In 1977, he began working in sales for Dempster Industries of Beatrice. Glenn LaVerne founded Roberts Pump and Supply Co. in December 1980. He remained active in the business with his two sons for several years. LaVerne was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golfing.
