Description	:	Glenn Oliver Brown was born south of Birch Tree on December 13, 1908. His parents were Frank and Viola(Weaver) Brown. He married Alma Pearl Brown at Poplar Bluff, MO on May 28, 1932. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year. They had 2 sons: Jerry Glenn, born August 9, 1933, and Vernon Max, born December 21, 1942. Max is a professor of geology at the University of... Read More	Glenn Oliver Brown was born south of Birch Tree on December 13, 1908. His parents were Frank and Viola(Weaver) Brown. He married Alma Pearl Brown at Poplar Bluff, MO on May 28, 1932. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year. They had 2 sons: Jerry Glenn, born August 9, 1933, and Vernon Max, born December 21, 1942. Jerry married Shirleen Wolfe of Winona, and Max married Julie Hall of Mountain View. Jerry retired in 1989 from McDonnell Douglas as its chief financial officer. Max is a professor of geology at the University of Toledo. Glenn and Alma have one granddaughter, Theresa Ann, an actuary in New York, who is married to Bruce Regal, an attorney. In addition to these, he is survived by a sister, Inez Hankey of Mtn. View. Glenn attended Bartlett Grade School and graduated from Birch Tree High School in 1927. He did all of his college work during summer terms, receiving a Bachelor of Education Degree from Southwest Missouri State University, and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Missouri. He was first and foremost an educator, with a career spanning 45 years. He began teaching in the rural schools of Bartlett and Corinth. He then moved to Winona where he taught in the grade school, then served as principal, and from 1949 to 1959 as the superintendent of schools. He then became superintendent of Birch Tree Schools from 1959 - 1972. The last two years of his career was as assistant superintendent at South Iron, MO. Glen was an avid gardener, he read widely, and loved to fish. The church was an integral part of his life. He accepted Christianity at an early age and became a deacon in the Baptist Church at the age of 21. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Birch Tree. He spent many years as a Sunday School teacher and also served as church treasurer, but his greatest pride came from the fact in his 80's he helped put the roof on the new church for the next generation.
