Read More	Mechanicsburg Daily Telegram Tuesday, 3/15/1938 A host of relatives and friends in this city and community were shocked and saddened about 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon with the announcement that Glenn Rutan, prominent farmer residing north of town was dead, a victim of carbon monoxide poisoning. Mr Rutan was in town yesterday afternoon and purchased a piece of rubber hose, which he later used in ending his life. Returning home Mr. Rutan drove his automobile into the garage and attached on end of the hose to the exhaust of the automobile and covering the other end with a piece of gauze, reentered the machine and held the end to his face until he was over come by fumes. Mr Rutan was found by his son Roland, who assisted his father in the operation of the farm. Coroner Richard Brand was called and rendered a suicide verdict and the remains were removed to the funeral parlors of Davis & Byers on North Main street, where they were prepared for burial. Mr. Rutan was about 70 years of age and was born and had resided all of his life on the farm where he passed away. He had served as township trustee and as director of the Farmers Bank. He is survived by his wife Mrs Dell McAdams Rutan and the following children; Roland, who resided with his family on the home farm, William and Willis, residing here, Dewitt Rutan of Villa; Mrs Wingate Tullis residing southwest of town and Mrs SW Cunningham of Locust street and a daughter by a previous marriage Miss Gertrude Rutan of St Petersburg, Florida, also the following brothers and sisters; David Rutan of Dayton; Warren Rutan of Dublin and Edward Rutan of Gary, Indiana and three sisters Mrs Mary Bullard of this community, Mrs Harry Whittiker of Dublin and Mrs Davis Cunningham of St Petersburg, Florida. Mr Rutan was one of the prominent farmers of this community and was liked by everyone. He had been in ill health for some time. He was a member of the Treacles Creek church and of the K of P Lodge. No funeral arrangements had been made at the hour of going to press pending word from relatives at a distance.
