Description	:	Merlene Dovenbarger was born December 15, 1931 to Merrell D. & Myra L. (Lathrop) Thompson in Iowa. Following her graduation from high school she attended Omaha Baptist Bible College and Lincoln School of Commerce. On December 29, 1961 she was married to Willard Dale Dovenbarger at the First Baptist Church in Lincoln. Among places she was employed in Lincoln were Back to the Bible radio broadcast and Metromail Corporation. A favorite pastime of theirs was sailing on their sailboat at lakes in Kansas and Nebraska. On December 29, 1961 she was married to Willard Dale Dovenbarger at the First Baptist Church in Lincoln. In December of 1999 they retired to Dale's hometown of Benedict, Nebraska where she resided the rest of her life. Her husband, Dale, passed away December 10, 2019. Merlene was a faithful attendee at services at the Stromsburg Baptist Church and served as secretary of her Women's Circle group and a teacher's assistant in the children's Sunday School for many years. She and Dale were long-time and active participants in Gideons International ministry. She fell in her home on April 22nd, breaking her arm and suffering a stroke shortly thereafter at the hospital in York, from which she never regained consciousness. She passed away Friday April 30 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg, Nebraska. Merlene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant son, her four siblings and their spouses and three brothers-in-law. She is survived by three sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and friends. A service in her memory will be held at Stromsburg Baptist Church on Wednesday May 5, and she will be buried with her husband at the Greenwood Cemetery in York.
